SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The Transportation Safety Administration reported a record week last week for guns found in carry-on bags at airports across the country.

One of those guns was found at Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport. It was a loaded .22 North American mini-revolver.

TSA officials even posted a picture of the gun and ammo on Twitter. The woman carrying the gun is from Savannah and had it in her purse. She was arrested for carrying a weapon in an unauthorized location. The incident happened Saturday during the busiest point of the holiday weekend travel.

Last week alone, TSA reported finding 65 firearms in seven days, with 54 loaded, in airports across the United States. At Savannah-Hilton Head, they've had two cases in the last five months. In both, the woman forgot they had the guns in their purses.

"Every time, it's not like they are a criminal. It's usually someone forgets where they have something. I know it's hard to imagine, but it's just carelessness that they did not check very thoroughly before they went through security," Lori Lynah, Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport, told WTOC.

Lynah says last year they had maybe three cases of guns found in security checks. This year, so far, they've had two. One time, a woman had an old gun that had fallen in between the lining of an old purse she used for a trip and it had dust bunnies on it. She still got arrested.

The guns are all confiscated, just like your oversized hand lotions and liquids, which are not allowed on a plane either.

On a side note, Lynah is also warning folks traveling through Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport to not arrive extra early for flights, despite reported warnings from TSA to plan on arriving three hours early to airports because of sequestration. She says one and a half hour arrival before departure time is just the right amount of time for a comfortable departure from Savannah-Hilton Head.
