Man rescued from GA cave

WALKER COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

A 54-year-old man is recovering at Erlanger Medical Center after a fall in Ellison's Cave located in Walker County, GA. The cave is listed as the 12th deepest in the United States.

He fell Sunday night but it took crews more than 18 hours to get him out. The man was part of a group of cave explorers from Pennsylvania. He suffered a broken leg, rib and head injuries after falling more than 50 feet.

Friends of the man were able to reach him and administer first aid until help arrived. The deep drop involved in order to reach the victim as well as the nature of his injuries complicated rescue efforts.
