Many of us are enjoying a long, holiday weekend as we celebrate Memorial Day.
But in between the picnics, the baseball games and the sales, we all need to pause and remember what Memorial Day is all about.
It was originally established to honor those who died in the Civil War. Today, it's a time to remember and pay tribute to all those who fought and died in all our country's wars.
It is even more significant now since we are in a war in Afghanistan and thousands of American troops are in other hot spots around the world. Those in harms way include men and women from Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City.
So, on this Memorial Day, keep our military personnel and their families in mind. It's the least we can do.
I'm James Smith.
