Water park opens in Aiken Co.

Memorial Day Weekend is a sign that summer is almost here and once again, the Aiken County Family YMCA has opened their water park in Graniteville, for the summer.

Claire King is a regular of the water park. She said she enjoys the lazy river the most.

"I go down the lazy river over and over again," Claire said.

The water park also includes a lap pool, a zero entry kiddie pool, and two water slides.

"It's very fun. It's exhilarating," said Sergio Gallardo about the water slides. "It's a little dizzy but it's really fun. It makes you feel like a kid again."

The YMCA has 30 lifeguards on staff and at least 8 on the deck at one time.

Olivia King, one of the lifeguards, has worked at the Y for 5 years. She said they've seen an increase in membership since the park opened last year.

"We've had a lot of people signing up for membership since the summer started, so we should be really busy," said King.

The Aiken Y branch has a new pool pass which allows members to bring friends with them to the water park, this year.

An individual day pass is $20 for adults and $10 for children. Members may purchase a booklet of 5 passes for $50 for adults and $25 for children.

The staff says Y members will also be able to invite their guests to enjoy the park on 3 specific days in the summer at no cost. Those dates are June 7, July 5 and August 2.

The Aiken County Family Y is also looking for lifeguards. If interested, contact them at (803) 349-8080 or visit www.thefamily.org and search Aiken.
