Aiken Red Cross Chapter on stand-by for Oklahoma relief

Updated:

The images we're seeing in Oklahoma having a heavy impact on viewers around the country and here in the CSRA. Lindsay Findley says she was heartbroken when she found out about it.

"It's just so sad to see so many families that are affected," Findley said. "But I know that the American Red Cross was going to be here responding."

And they did. Thirty disaster relief volunteers and vehicles have been sent to Oklahoma; three of them from the Palmetto region. And at any moment, volunteers with the Aiken chapter could be deployed.

Volunteers are packaging disaster kits filled with non-perishable food, water and batteries. They're also packing cleaning supplies: brooms, sponges, soap and bleach.

"They'll provide them with food. They'll provide them with drinks, water, comfort, emotional council if needed. They'll also go out and do damage assessments," Findley said.

Thousands of dollars worth of damage in the area. Which is why the Red Cross is asking people for monetary donations, so they can buy whatever supplies they need.  An easy way: texting Red cross to 90999; that'll send a $10 donation. Might not seem like a lot, but Findley says even the smallest donation can make a big difference.
