A woman who went to prison in the 1970s for having her husband killed is now accused of plotting a hit on her own daughter, and police say they foiled her latest alleged scheme just in time.

Frieda Portune, 72 - who sought insurance money when her husband died - is accused of planning to pay for her daughter's death with a boat.

"I think it's jealousy, envy, just a pure evil black heart," said the woman's daughter, Sherry Metz.

They are harsh words for your own mother, but in Portune's case, they might be deserved.

"She's the most evil woman I know," Metz said.

The Stewart County Sheriff's Office said Portune and the ex-girlfriend of Metz's nephew, 23-year-old Jessica Cook, tried to have Metz killed.

Investigators say Portune gave the would-be killer directions to her daughter's home, explained where her daughter's bedroom was and then allegedly told them to set the fuse box on fire.

"How would you feel to know that your mother wants you dead? I mean, how would you feel? Seriously, I can't put a word to it," Metz said.

If that isn't bad enough, as payment for the murder, investigators said Portune offered the would-be hit man a boat.

"A boat? Really, a boat? I don't know. Really, I don't know," Metz said.

In 1976, Portune was convicted of second-degree murder for paying someone to kill her husband in California.

Now, Portune and Cook face charges for solicitation of first-degree murder, and their victim said she is scared to be in her own home.

"I don't want to stay here," Metz said. "I'm wondering who else has she talked to? What else has been planned? Have they already been here? Have they already tampered with things?"

Investigators have not yet released a motive in the alleged murder plot. Metz said she suspects it may have been over a family feud involving a property dispute.

As for the boat that the mom was allegedly using as payment, Metz said it was old, ugly and didn't even work.
