AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

UPDATE:

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office is now referring to the three dead bodies found Tuesday afternoon off of Mickey Court as murder victims.

Investigators now say they have a person of interest in custody and second location that is linked to the three deaths. Deputies responded to a home in the Pinnacle Place Subdivision for a welfare check, when they found evidence that linked the home to the bodies.

No charges have been filed at this time due to the sensitive amount of evidence that needs to be processed at both crime scenes.

The identities of the person of interest and the three victims are not being released at this time.

UPDATE:

What began as a simple call to firefighters about a brush fire, shortly before noon, turned into a larger investigation.

After firefighters extinguished the fire,  the burned bodies were discovered.

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office was called in and blocked off the wooded area on Ethan Way, just behind Deer Chase Elementary School.

There is not much detail at this time but investigators said the bodies are of three African Americans - two men, and one woman. They are now asking for the public's help.

"At this time the Sheriff's Office is asking public assistance in learning the identity of any missing persons that they may know of, possibly in the last 30 days," said Sgt. Monica Belser. "That could really help us get the identification of these 3 bodies that we have on scene today."
