Fort Campbell sexual abuse prevention program leader removed

Posted: Updated:

The leader of a Fort Campbell sexual harassment prevention program has been removed from his position while civilian law enforcement investigates allegations of improper behavior.

Lt. Col. Darin Haas faces charges of aggravated stalking and violating an order of protection filed against him by his ex-wife.

The couple divorced in 2011, and since that time, Haas' ex-wife told Clarksville police he sent her dozens and dozens of text messages full of foul language and allegedly threatening to take her life.

At one point, court documents reveal, Haas texted her, "the world would be a better place without you in it."

In another message, Haas wrote, "The kids and your Mom would be better off if you didn't exist."

The man's ex-wife told officers she also worried about his recent purchase of a handgun.

Haas spoke about his wife in March, writing on Twitter: "Stopped by my lawyer's office today... another great day for me!!! Boy, am I glad that I'm not my ex-wife!!!"

The couple shares custody of three kids, and Haas' ex-wife argues he got too close to her and violated the order of protection during a handoff in a store parking lot.

Haas was the manager of the Fort Campbell Sexual Harassment and Assault Response Prevention/Equal Opportunity program, but a replacement will now take over the program, according to a statement from Fort Campbell.

Channel 4 News stopped by Haas' home Thursday, where his fiancee answered the door and declined comment.

The Clarksville Police Department and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office are investigating the allegations against Haas. Military officials said they would wait for the investigation by Clarksville police to finish before deciding what next to do.

Haas is out on bond Thursday evening, and his ex-wife's family declined comment for this story.
