PHOENIX (CBS5/AP) -

The jury deciding the fate of Jodi Arias heard dramatic and emotional testimony Thursday from two of the siblings of the man she murdered.

Steven Alexander described the emotional and physical anguish he's suffered since losing his brother Travis Alexander in 2008, including ulcers, a separation from his wife and nightmares.

"I've had dreams of my brother all curled up in the shower, thrown in there left to rot for days, all alone," he emphatically told the jury. "I don't want these nightmares anymore. I don't want to have to see my brother's murderer anymore."

His sister, Samantha Alexander, said both of their parents had passed away and that Travis Alexander had been their family's strength.

"Our minds are permanently stained with the images of our poor brothers' throat slit from ear to ear," she said.

"Our family has not been together since Travis has been gone," she added. "It's simply too hard to think of that one empty chair."

Samantha Alexander showed the jury pictures of their grandma with Travis Alexander and told the jurors how Travis' death impacted their grandma. She passed away right before the jury selection began.

Both siblings referenced one of Travis Alexander's quotes, "The difference between a stumbling block and a stepping stone is the character of the person blocking the path."

Samantha Alexander said he wrote the quote on gift bags he handed out to people in need.

The defense and prosecution on Thursday delivered arguments to jurors on whether Arias should get a life sentence or be executed, as the case's penalty phase opened in a Phoenix courtroom.

The same jury convicted Arias of first-degree murder last week.
