Family watches as everything they own destroyed by apartment fire

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

Theresa Kinard, a single mother with three children, lost everything when her North Augusta apartment building was destroyed by a fire.

"I've been here maybe a month and a half and I put everything I had into this apartment and now it's all gone," she said.

Kinard says all she has left are her children and she says they're her only comfort.

"Tears, a lot of pain, a lot of sweat and hard work. I don't know what we're going to do," said Kinard.

Kinard believes a stove fire in her neighbor's apartment started the blaze.

Kinard says four families lived in the building on Conifer Court; no one was injured during the fire.

Investigators say it happened about 5 p.m. Wednesday. Kinard says it was only a matter of minutes before the entire building was engulfed in flames.

"With the flames and everyone running around and screaming is this person out is this person out, is that person out. The flames were coming from everywhere it was just unbelievable," explained Kinard.

She says her property wasn't insured and she has to start again with nothing.

"It was extremely hard for me to make it this far and now that I have to start all over it's going to be any harder," she said.

North Augusta Public Safety officers are investigating the cause of the fire.
