VIDEO: Duo steals puppy from Charlotte couple's yard

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

A north Charlotte couple says they want to know who jumped over their fence and stole their 5 month old puppy. The couple's neighbors caught it all on surveillance video.

Police say stealing a pet is a felony, but the owners say they won't press charges; they just want their puppy back.

Traci and Ray Drury live off Mourning Dove Lane in the Mallard Creek area of Charlotte, and say two people stole Riley from their backyard around 8 a.m. Wednesday.

"I panicked. I looked at the fence to see if maybe he'd gotten through. Eventually I realized there was no opening to the fence," Ray Drury said.

Neighbors captured surveillance video that shows two people carrying Riley from the Drury's house. The couple adopted Riley recently from the Humane Society.

"Why would somebody steal your puppy? I mean that's just ridiculous," Traci Drury said.

The two filed a police report and are working with neighbors for more help.
