BV schools closed for third straight day

BUENA VISTA TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

Buena Vista schools in Saginaw County are closed again for the third straight day, and parents continue to worry about the future of their children's education.

The third day of classes have been canceled for students and teachers in the district, but there is some new information on how leaders are working to handle this problem.

School board president Randy Jackson says the board plans to declare a financial emergency.

It remains to be seen if the move will relieve some of the financial burden the district is under or how long it will take.

Meanwhile, some parents are looking for ways to get their children out of the Buena Vista school district and back in to class somewhere else.

Dr. Craig Douglas, the superintendent at Carrollton schools, says there are spaces available in his district.

"I'll do whatever I can. It's all on a case by case basis and we've got the process for school of choice. That enrollment process is in place, so we don't have to reinvent the wheel. The wheel is there" said Douglas.

The Saginaw Intermediate school district is also discussing ways to get students from Buena Vista back in school through the rest of the year.

The spokesperson for Saginaw schools says the Saginaw district is waiting to hear the plans of the intermediate school district before they decide whether to accept students.
