Sarah Simmons prepares for first 'Live Playoff'

MEMPHIS, TN -

MEMPHIS, TN -(WMC-TV) - Sarah Simmons was the first Memphis voice contestant to perform on the "The Voice" live shows which started Monday at 7 p.m.

"It's incredible to be able to express your heart through this and be able to share your heart," said Simmons.

The fact that she is performed live in front of millions of people across the country did not appear to phase her.

"Just trying not to think about the outcomes at all just so I don't miss the experience I'm going to have later on," said Simmons.

She has had to develop her own strategy to stay calm and enjoy the moment.

"It least that is the survival method for me. Not to focus on what is going to happen or anything or you are thinking too much about yourself and not really sharing what you could give in that moment," said Simmons.

Sarah started preparing for the show early Monday morning. She will not stop until late tonight after she performs.

The performances Monday were emotional, which is something Simmons does well.

"It's in dedication to my best friend that I lost last year. One of my 'bestest' friends," said Simmons.

The friend Sarah lost was a fellow student at visible music college. A group back home cheering her own the whole way.

Action News 5's Lindsey Brown is in LA following the Memphis contestants in "The Voice".
