Overturned car found in creek is a mystery

VERONA, KY (FOX19) -

The Boone County Sheriff's Office is trying to figure out what happened to a driver who crashed a car into a creek.

The car was found Monday morning in the 15000 block of U.S. 42 by passing motorists. The car was full of water and the driver's door was ajar. In addition, the radio was still on.

Deputies searched the car and surrounding area for the driver to no avail. The registered owner in Corinth, Ky. realized it was missing when deputies contacted them about the accident.

Sheriff's deputies are still working to locate and identify the driver.

Investigators believe the car was headed westbound on U.S. 42 before leaving the roadway and ending up overturned in the creek. It's unclear how long the car had been in the creek.

While crews were trying to remove the car, a cable snapped.

The Boone County Sheriff's Office says no leads have been named in the investigation.
