Miami University surpasses enrollment goal

OXFORD, OH (FOX19) -

Miami University has surpassed their enrollment goal for students who plan on attending in the fall.

A record number of students have applied for fall 2013 admission.

More than 22,500 students applied. This number is up nearly 11 percent from the previous year.

As of the May 1 confirmation deadline, the number of first-year students confirming their enrollment to Miami surpassed the university's goal of 3,600. Currently, 3,752 students are committed to attending Miami in the fall.

The academic qualifications and diversity of the admitted student pool have increased, making this year one of the most selective for first-year admission to Miami.

Students accepted to Miami scored highly on standardized tests: 32.3 percent scored 30 or above on the ACT. On the SAT (Critical Reading + Math), 32.5 percent scored 1300 and above.

Admitted students represent regions and cultures around the world and hail from 49 states, including Ohio, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and 53 other countries.

Additionally, 13.4 percent identify themselves as multicultural students, and international students make up 7.1 percent of the admitted student pool.
