Nine people, including one juvenile, are under arrest after Springfield police raided a heroin and cocaine distribution ring.
According to Springfield Police Sergeant John Delaney, the Narcotics division conducted an extensive 7-month investigation on two apartments located at 46 West Alvord St. because of large amounts of traffic from people coming and going.
Delaney said the investigation revealed there were illegal narcotics being sold in and around the neighborhood.
He said officers ended the investigation by obtaining search warrants for the two apartments.
When officers arrived to issue the warrants, they noticed two suspects who were leaving to make a delivery. Their vehicle was pulled over and both suspects were arrested and allegedly had 599 bags of heroin in the car.
The two suspects were identified as Roberto Vasquez, 22, and Kristall Collins, 18. Delaney said they were also known as the ring leaders.
Delaney said officers then raided both apartments and took seven others into custody including Luis Delvalle-Diaz, 36, Jeymi Cotto, 21, Heide Helen Santiago, 35, Johnathan Velez, 19, Joseph Ocasio, 32, and Joel Cordero, 33.
Vasquez and Collins are facing many charges including carrying a firearm and distribution of heroin.
The others were taken into custody and also face a number of charges including possession of heroin with intent to distribute and trafficking in cocaine.
