Driver, 79, lives to tell about being hit by train

Posted: Updated:

A 79-year-old Lexington woman was uninjured after her car was hit by a train Thursday morning near Springdale.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the collision happened around 10:30 a.m. on Wattling Road just north of Springdale.

Troopers say a Norfolk Southern train hit a 2002 Ford driven by Annie Lybrand. "It wasn't any fun," said Lybrand.

"I was trying to back off the tracks so I wouldn't get hit and it hit me in the front," she said. "Well the car wouldn't go. It wouldn't go back anymore."

Troopers say Lybrand stopped on the tracks.

"I'm just nervous, but I thank God for taking care of me," said Lybrand. "Norfolk Southern is going to investigate the wreck. He said that it's a possibility that they would get me a new car."

Lybrand says she'd be grateful for a new car. "That's the only vehicle I have, so I need a car," she said.

No charges have been filed.
