Askew asked to credit song to Turner on 'The Voice'

(WMC-TV) - A former "The Voice" contestant told Action News 5 why she claimed the song "I Can't Stand the Rain" was by Tina Turner, not Ann Peebles.

Grace Askew lost her knockout round on Tuesday's episode of "The Voice".

When asked about her song, she claimed it was a Tina Turner tune. Turner did perform it, but it was written and performed by Ann Peebles.

Askew said she knew this, and was told to say Tina Turner by the show.

"I kept telling them it's Anne Peebles, man. This is why I'm doing it. It's for Memphis. I guess they edited it down to where I said Tina Turner," she said.

She plans to work on her album when she returns to Memphis.
