Haley vs. Sheheen? First ads set stage for 2014 campaign

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

Like pieces on a chess board or units in the board game RISK, national political groups have begun to mobilize ahead of next year's gubernatorial race in hopes of swaying the vote.

Last week, Politico reported a pro-Gov. Nikki Haley political action committee, The Movement Fund, had purchased $130,000 worth of advertisements across the Palmetto State to be aired from May 1 to 10.

Now, the Democratic Governor's Association has published a web video to attack Haley as those ads begin to air.

"For too long, Nikki Haley has been a sought-after artist for her collection of corrupt works," begins the ad, titled "Gallery of Corruption".

The ad uses newspaper headlines and a voice over of several news anchors reading reports on the Ethics Commission investigation Haley was the target of back in 2010.

In the end, Haley was eventually cleared of any ethics violations.

But these first ads are just the first shots fired in what's expected to be a grueling 2014 campaign.

Haley's challenger in 2010, state Sen. Vincent Sheheen, announced he would once again be running for governor.

While Haley has not announced her intentions to run for re-election, she is already flush with just over $2 million in contributions in her campaign account.
