Suspect's dust mask tests positive for ricin

(WMC-TV) - Federal investigators released new information Tuesday about their investigation of a Tupelo Martial arts instructor suspected of sending ricin laced letters to President Obama, Mississippi U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, and a Tupelo judge.

"No, I wouldn't recognize ricin if I saw it," said Everett Dutschke last week while FBI agents searched his Tupelo home. Dutschke lives there with his wife and children.

He denied knowing anything about ricin laced letters. But Federal investigators revealed ricin was discovered in Dutschke's martial arts studio in a Tupelo strip mall.

Investigators said they saw Dutschke taking items out of his martial arts studio including a dust mask that tested positive for ricin.

The FBI surveillance team saw Dutschke throw the items in a trash can about 100 yards away.

Business owner Chris Harper talked with Dutschke a few times.

"He made a suggestion of how good the environment is. Then he made a point of saying something off the top of his head. It just needs to get better or something might happen," said Harper.

Investigators said Dutschke used the Internet to buy castor beans, which ricin is made from.

FBI agents were back at Dutschke's Tupelo home again on Tuesday going over the vehicles in the driveway. No one appeared to be home.

FBI agents arrested Everett Dutschke Saturday . He is being held without bond awaiting a hearing in Oxford scheduled for Thursday.
