GRU security officer brought Azziz's children home from school

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

Jency George is a senior at Georgia Regents University and she says the way Dr. Ricardo Azziz has used the school's resources has created "a little stank in the air."

In a prepared statement, GRU officials said a public safety officer picked up Azziz's children from school over 18 months ago because their parents weren't able to pick them up.

University policy clearly states GRU shouldn't transport the president's family to or from school.

George said, "That irks me a little bit, considering the security over here is supposed to be helping us, not helping out non-campus."

Some students are still sore about a private wedding at Azziz's home last weekend, where he used a university owned bus to transport guests and university police provided security.

However, the use of school resources at the wedding did not violate GRU policy.

GRU officials say Azziz will repay the university.

Gabe Flores is a freshman at GRU and he believes the school's resources should only be used by the school.

"If he's just using resources for his own personal life I think that's a little bit in the wrong for him," Flores, said.

"It's just not fair," said George.

Azziz asked the University System of Georgia to review the use of school resources at the wedding. It has yet to be seen if they will also review the use of a security officer to take the children home from school.

No one with GRU was available to comment on camera.
