Airport parking rates not expected to increase

Posted: Updated:

Travelers won't have to worry about paying more for parking at Augusta Regional Airport.

On Thursday, a commission meeting voted against a proposal to increase airport rates for long-term and short-term parking. The lots are currently managed by Republic Parking System Management but that contract expires at the end of this year. Airport officials said they wanted to bring parking management in-house and make their rates more competitive.

"If the increase was approved there would be an additional dollar to the current rates [long-term and short- term] so that would be going from $9 to $10 and $7 to $8," said Lauren Smith, Airport Communications Manager.

Officials said they may revisit the option of bringing parking in-house but they will also consider bids from other management companies.
