Kris Thomas: Key to success is listening to Shakira

(WMC-TV) - Former Stax Academy student Kris Thomas was chosen by his coach, Shakira, to move on in "The Voice".

In an interview with Action News 5, Thomas said the key to his success on the show is going to be listening to his coach's advice.

As for what Shakira is telling him, it has everything to do with singing with emotion.

"I tend to focus on the technical aspects of singing and kind of catch myself on the emotional part and that's the part that she's telling me to focus on, so if I stick to what her feedback is then I'll be OK," he said.

"The Voice" has had a huge audience and Kris Thomas says he can feel the love and support from his Memphis fans.

Not only has he seen his songs downloaded on iTunes, but he is getting a lot of messages from Memphis fans on social media.

Along with Kris Thomas, two other Memphians made it through to the next round on the reality show.

Look for Sarah Simmons, Grace Askew, and Kris Thomas on Monday and Tuesday nights starting at 7 p.m. on Action News 5.

Beale Street singer Patrick Dodd was eliminated, but will join the Action News 5 team as our "The Voice" analyst to give us insight into the competition as it continues throughout the season.
