Patrick Dodd speaks about his time on 'The Voice'

Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) – Memphian Patrick Dodd is not your typical rocker. He is a hometown guy whose first priority is being a good husband and dad to his three daughters. But who says you can't have it all? Now that he is home from "The Voice", he is not skipping a beat.

Patrick Dodd is a man on a mission.

"The first time I went through LAX after I'd been on the air, I think we were stopped like 40 times for pictures and autographs," he said.

After his battle round aired, he woke up to more than 2,000 messages and emails. His Facebook page blew up, fans from all over saying he looks like actor Steven Seagal and asking about his next gig.

Comments came in from Quebec, Ireland, and California. This Beale street rocker has no regrets.

"You go from working 300 days a year and doing everything yourself to being a total rock star treatment, you know, wardrobe, hair and makeup and the most amazing band and musicians you could possibly play with," he said.

Through the experience, Dodd's pride in his hometown has been obvious, and clearly Americans like what they heard.

"My version of "Walking in Memphis" made it up to number 22 on the rock charts," Dodd said.

It is an impressive run for a guy who's always maintained, "These reality TV shows and competition shows aren't really my thing."

Clearly they actually are and now he is an instant fan favorite with new friends and skills to take his career to the next level, even though he says his first priority is his family.

"That's what people don't see at home," he explained. "We really do truly become like brothers and sisters and that's something that I look forward to having all these relationships all over the country where we can tour and help each other out. It's going to be awesome."

Dodd's fans don't have to worry about opportunities to see him sing again. He's performing Wednesday at Minglewood Hall in Memphis and singing the national anthem Thursday night at the first home Grizzlies game of the playoffs.

And you haven't seen the last of Patrick Dodd. He'll now be joining Action News 5 as our "The Voice" analyst as the competition progresses.
