Mesa Police Officer injured by 'angry man' during scuffle

MESA, AZ (CBS5) -

A Mesa Police Officer injured his elbow while subduing a man that became violent without warning while he was being lead to a gurney for transport to the hospital.

Mesa fire said Brian Clifford is a known heroin user, and struck the officer in the side before being struck several times in the face.

The man was taken to Desert Samaritan Hospital for injuries to his face and for a heroin overdose.

The officer that injured his elbow was also treated at Desert Samaritan. Clifford was booked for assault, resisting arrest and threats against the fire crew.
