AIKEN, SC (WFXG) -

Aiken County authorities taking no chances after calls of a suspicious car parked outside the Country Inn and Suites on Whiskey Road.

"I had gone to the pool at 8:30, set up my little camp and they asked me to go back in," said Ilene, who did not want to give her last name. She was planning to leave the motel this morning."

Investigators say two gas canisters and a propane tank were placed underneath this SUV.  No wires or detonators to make them think it was a bomb, but that didn't stop them from taking precaution.

"We don't walk up to suspicious packages or vehicles that we think may be part of an explosive," said Sheriff Michael Hunt. "We let these bomb folks come do what we're paying them to do."

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Bomb Squad used a robot to get a closer look. Then sent in bomb technicians to dismantle the canisters.

After the bombings at the Boston Marathon earlier this week, residents are still shaken up. One man was fearful for his daughter who was at school down the road from the motel.

"I'm afraid for her," the man said. "I want to go down their but they won't let me down there."

But guests at the motel were at ease; thanking local law enforcement for taking this incident very seriously.

"I don't think there was a lot of scare, but concern," Ilene said. "But I think you could see so many precautionary measures being taken that I think we felt secure."

Investigators found the owners of the SUV. They were part of a construction crew working at a site nearby, saying they couldn't leave the gas cans at the site, so they left them under the car.

Investigators cleared the scene and told guests the area was safe. And even though Sheriff Hunt says a lot of resources and law enforcement units were used, he'd rather be safe than sorry.

UPDATE:

Law enforcement has cleared the scene at an Aiken motel after a bomb scare. Investigators located the owners of the "suspicious" vehicle and confirmed there was no malicious intent. The owners of the vehicle told officials on the scene they didn't know where else to put the gas cans and propane tank, so they put them under the vehicle.

No word on any charges at this time.
