'The Voice' contestants bring good publicity for Memphis

MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - The Bluff City is still waiting for its four contestants in "The Voice" to take the stage during the Battle Rounds.

Not only are these local singers giving Memphis a voice, but they are also serving as a marketing voice for the city.

Kris Thomas, Sarah Simmons, Patrick Dodd, and Grace Askew each talked about how Memphis shaped their singing styles, as well as their desire to pursue music as careers before the whole country when they first appeared on "The Voice".

For the Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau the contestants aren't only a sense of pride, but also represent some serious free advertising for all the city has to offer.

"Millions of dollars of free advertising for the Memphis brand," said Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau President Kevin Kane. "Talking about the Memphis influence and how it steered their career path and here they are being spotlighted with a total of 14 people on national television. Week in and week out. We should be very proud."

It is not uncommon for Memphis to have residents appear on network talent shows, but four at one time is a rare and special opportunity to highlight Memphis talent.

Tune in to "The Voice" on Action News 5 Monday and Tuesday nights at 7 p.m.
