PHOENIX (AP) -

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Fred DuVal says he has the support of former Arizona governors Raul Castro, Rose Mofford and Bruce Babbitt.

DuVal's campaign announced Thursday the endorsements from the former Democratic governors.

The announcement helps cement DuVal's status as the early Democratic front-runner in the 2014 gubernatorial race.

DuVal is a former Arizona Board of Regents president and a former Democratic National Committee member for Arizona. His campaign also recently announced endorsements from legislators and others in an apparent effort to show widespread support among party activists.

Another possible Democratic candidate is House Minority Leader Chad Campbell, a Phoenix Democrat who has signaled interest.

Former Tempe Mayor Hugh Hallman is running on the GOP nomination. Other possible Republican candidates include Secretary of State Ken Bennett and state Treasurer Doug Ducey.
