(RNN) - Brian Banks has signed with the Atlanta Falcons after being exonerated on rape charges. Banks spent five years in prison.

A California judge threw out Banks' sentence on May 24, 2012, after the woman who accused him recanted.

In 2002, Banks, then a junior in high school, was offered a scholarship from University of Southern California before he pleaded no contest to the charges.

Since his exoneration, Banks has tried to get back into football.

According to Associated Press, the 27-year-old participated in minicamps with the Seattle Seahawks, and will participate in the Hawk's off-season workouts with the chance to continue his career.

Banks recently took to Twitter to express how he feels about signing: "My God how amazing you are…ATL."

According to CBSsports, there's no guarantee that Banks will end up on the team. He probably has a long climb to make the roster, but he's going got to have a shot to make his dream come true.
