(WMC-TV) - So far, three Memphis singers have been chosen to move forward on NBC's hit reality talent show "The Voice".

Kris Thomas

The first Memphian to be picked to a team during blind auditions was Kris Thomas, a graduate of Trezevant High School.

Shakira was the only judge to turn her seat around, but the others admit that they were fooled by his voice and high notes as he belted out the Whitney Houston favorite "Saving All My Love For You".

"I wish I knew you were a guy," Adam Levine said after he turned around.

When Shakira found out Thomas was a man, she kept a straight face so that she wouldn't tip off the fellow judges.

"I'm so glad you're on my team because you're a champ. Your control, falsetto, pitch, I loved it."

"In my four seasons, I've never seen anything like that before," added Levine.

Sarah Simmons

The second Memphian to be selected to a team on "The Voice" was 22-year-old Sarah Simmons, who is studying music at Visible Music College.

Simmons sang her rendition of the Joan Osbourne hit "One of Us".

"That was incredible. You, 150 percent can win this show. I know you can," said Adam Levine, who Simmons chose to be her coach. "I really fight for the ones I'm dying to have. I know that I can do this with you, I just know that I can do it."

"I think you can win this thing and you may be in my top three singers I have ever heard audition for 'The Voice', I mean that Sarah, I mean that," added Blake Shelton.

Patrick Dodd

Patrick Dodd is the third local contestant to make it to the second round of "The Voice".

Dodd is well known on Beale Street and he proudly sang his rendition of "Walking in Memphis" to earn his place on a team.

But after singing, Dodd was given a choice.

"That was awesome. I really, really loved it. You have so much soul in your voice and your performance was so effortless because you know exactly what to do in your voice, you're a professional to me. You're probably thinking I don't have so much experience in this show, but never underestimate a five foot three Columbian girl," said Shakira, who begged Dodd to join her team.

"The thing I envy probably the most is the density, the rasp, the soul, I don't have that, I sound like a girl when I sing, I have a simple, very high voice so I really have a lot of respect for that," said Adam Levine. "You perform a lot?"

"I play 300 days a year on Beale Street," Dodd answered.

Adam continued, "I can share one thing with you, which is that I have toured this country a million times and to keep doing it means you love it, and I love it, and I love you and I want you to be on my team."

Dodd chose to be on Team Adam.

Grace Askew

Grace Askew is the fourth contestant from Memphis to make it on 'The Voice'.

Askew blew away Blake Shelton, who turned his chair around within the first 15 seconds of her performance.

Shakira also turned her chair around in time to see Askew play her chrome guitar with just one hand.

"That makes total sense to me," said Shelton afterward. "I don't know that there is anything much sexier than a girl up there with a big old chrome guitar. And with cowboy boots on. It's stuff like that, you know what, I knew within the first couple lines of the song that I was completely into you."

He added, "You're a little bit country, but not all the way, there's some blues in there."

Askew responded that her style of music is called "bluntry".

Shelton interrupted Shakira several times expressing his excitement about Askew's performance.

In the end...

"I'm a country girl at heart, so I'm going to have to go with Blake."

Askew joined Team Blake Shelton.
