Project Nehemiah holds final gun buyback event

OVER THE RHINE, OH (FOX19) -

A 'Gifts for Guns' event was held on Good Friday, the final event in a 'Stop the Violence' campaign.

Gun owners came to the River of Life Church, located on Central Parkway, to exchange handguns for $100 gift cards to Target and Kroger. In addition, exchanged shotguns and rifles redeemed $50 gift cards.

Together, Project Nehemiah Ceasefire, the West End community and faith-based leaders have held a total of three gun buyback events so far in 2013.

At the first event on Martin Luther King's birthday, organizers say 145 guns were collected. At the second, held on Abraham Lincoln's birthday in February, 81 guns were collected.

The dates for the 'Gifts for Guns' events were specifically chosen to honor leaders killed by gun violence.

Project Nehemiah is a non-profit that works to rebuild family, faith and community.
