PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Two people are dead and one person injured after a car-pedestrian collision at a Phoenix bus stop Tuesday morning.

Police said the two people were getting ready to board a bus when a yellow pickup truck westbound in Indian School Road swerved into oncoming traffic, onto the sidewalk and between the bus and bus stop near 67th Avenue.

Phoenix police said the driver, Raymond Barela, 43, has been arrested.

Phoenix police said 47-year-old Jesus Antonio Martinez Chavez died on the scene and a 42-year-old woman was taken to the hospital and died during surgery. Her identity is not being released yet. A third pedestrian, a 36-year-old woman, had minor injuries.

The truck's driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital, according to police.

Police said the Barela admitted to he was suffering the effects of a drug taken the night before, though police did not specify whether it was prescription or recreational.

Phoenix police said Barela was booked into Maricopa County Jail on Tuesday for two counts of manslaughter, one count of aggravated assault and one count of aggravated DUI because his driving privilege was suspended.

The incident just before 6:45 a.m. closed Indian School Road in both directions at 67th Avenue, according to police.
