The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner has identified the woman killed downtown Sunday as 53-year-old Aliza Sherman from Beachwood.

Police say they received a call around 5:30 p.m. Sunday for a woman screaming at 75 Erieview Plaza, near The Galleria.

When officers arrived they found Sherman covered in blood.  She was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center where she later died from her injuries.

While at the hospital, it was determined that it appeared Sherman had been stabbed multiple times in her torso, however the Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.

According to court documents, Sherman was going through a divorce.  She filed a motion on March 22 for a protection order.

The Cleveland Clinic confirms that Sherman was an employee there.  They issued a statement saying:

"We are saddened by the tragic death of our long-time employee, Aliza, who was an invitro fertilization nurse. She has touched many lives and will always be remembered for her warmth and kindness. Our thoughts are with her family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time."

The Cleveland Division of Police is asking that anyone with information in connection with this incident to contact the Homicide Unit at 216-623-5464. Anonymous information can be given to Crime Stoppers by calling 216-252-7463 or Text messaging to Text TIP657 plus your message to Crimes (274637).
