South Carolina rallied from a pair of runs down to tie the game in the seventh inning but Arkansas used a two-run single from Matt Vinson in the top of the 12th inning to defeat the Gamecocks 5-3 Sunday.
17th-ranked Arkansas swept the three-game SEC series at Carolina Stadium. Arkansas is (17-7 and 4-2) in the SEC with 5th-ranked South Carolina (18-6 and 2-4) in league play.
South Carolina senior left-hander Tyler Webb suffered the loss and is now 0-1 on the year. In 4.2 innings, Webb allowed two runs on four hits with three walks and six strikeouts. Webb had not allowed a run in 31.0 consecutive innings dating back to last year before the runs in the 12th inning by Arkansas.
In his first SEC start, freshman left-hander Jack Wynkoop allowed three runs on seven hits in 4.2 innings with four strikeouts and a pair of walks. Effective in relief was freshman right-hander Curt Britt as he worked 1.2 scoreless and allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out a pair of batters.
Arkansas starter Randall Fant went 6.2 innings and allowed three runs, one earned, on three hits with a walk and seven strikeouts.
Arkansas had 12 hits with the Gamecocks finishing with six for the afternoon.
South Carolina is back in action on Tuesday night at College of Charleston.
