Aiken County leaders discuss manufacturing workforce future

Aiken County leaders met at the Economic Development Partnership Manufacturing Summit Friday morning, to discuss the future of the county's manufacturing workforce.

The EDP unveiled a study showing during the next three to five years, a total of 670 manufacturing jobs will be created in Aiken county, in addition to the 7,000 manufacturing workers currently spread across 98 local businesses.

EDP Director Will Williams said the summit was for leaders to share ideas on how to maintain a workforce with skill manufacturing workers to help grow Aiken County's economy.

"We want to ensure that we have the right number of people properly identified and skilled to go into these manufacturing opportunities," Williams said.

Within the next two years, more than 1,000 jobs are set to come to Aiken. Bridgestone brining in roughly 800, Recleim Recycling bringing in 220.
