Residents surveyed in Green Twp public housing debate

GREEN TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) -

In the ongoing debate over where to put 32 new public housing units in Green Township, the Cincinnati Metropolitan Housing Authority (CMHA) conducted a survey of area residents.

CMHA has the power to build in Green Township and are required by law to build 32 public housing units. However, several people in the township have expressed much opposition in the matter.

CMHA has two options: Place all units in a new multi-family housing development on a piece of land at North Bend Road and Westwood-Northern Boulevard, estimated at $6.6 million - OR - Buy and rehab enough buildings throughout the township to create the 32 units required, estimated at $3 million.

CMHA officials say they received more than 600 surveys. A breakdown of the survey results are as follows:

1) When asked about preferences for the type of CMHA development in Green Township:

  • 61 percent want CMHA to purchase and rehabilitate a combination of 2, 4, 6 or 8 multi-family dwellings on sites scattered throughout the township,
  • 36 percent suggest a combination of rehabbed and newly-built 2, 4, 6 or 8 multi-family housing on sites scattered throughout the township,
  • 12 percent prefer for CMHA to develop new, multi-family housing on one site, and
  • 10 percent are in favor of purchasing and rehabilitating multi-family housing on one site.
  • Note: respondents were asked to check all preferences that applied.

2) The majority of survey respondents indicated that they reside in Green Township (76 percent).  Ten percent of survey respondents were from Cheviot, eight percent were from Westwood and six percent noted they live in other Hamilton County locations.
