The Alabama Public Health Department is investigating allegations that an unlicensed, former Birmingham abortion clinic is still performing abortions.
In May of last year the All Woman New Women Health Clinic surrendered it's license to perform abortions after it was found it violated state law and standards. Tuesday, various anti-abortion groups met to accuse the facility of still providing abortions. The group notified the state health department two and half weeks ago of the allegations.
"This facility is operating no differently than facilities operated before Roe vs. Wade. They are doing illegal abortions. Not regulated. Not overseen by anyone," The Rev. Terry Gensemer with Charismatic Episcopal Church for Life said.
Tuesday, the Alabama Public Health Department released a statement saying the department is conducting an investigation into the allegations. A business manager of All Woman, New Woman who did not want to be identified told FOX6 News they do not perform abortions and that they are only doctor offices. Gensemer said if they had known the investigation was ongoing they would not have held today's news conference.
