The Thunderbird School of Global Management has announced a partnership that'll allow the Glendale-based business school to expand its international reach.

School president Dr. Larry Edward Penley says the deal will preserve Thunderbird's status as an independent, nonprofit institution while giving it access to more permanent campuses abroad.

The partnership is with Maryland-based Laureate Education Inc.

Laureate is a privately held, for-profit company that runs more than 65 accredited campus-based and online universities in North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia, the Middle East and North Africa with more than 750,000 students.

The two institutions will create a jointly owned entity through which Thunderbird will open multiple international sites and campuses, expand its online and executive-education programs and offer undergraduate degree programs.

The partnership is expected to be finalized by June.
