NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Lightning from severe storms struck two schools and one home in Middle Tennessee on Monday morning.

A couple was inside their Madison home when it was hit by lightning around 9 a.m. The home is located in the 400 block of Due West Avenue.

They said they heard a loud boom then smelled smoke and saw flames. A hole in the roof was visible after the lightning strike.

The couple said most of the damage was contained in the attic. No one was hurt and the home is not a total loss.

The fire marshal is investigating.

Lightning hits 2 schools

Lightning struck a fire alarm in the Lawrence County High School vocational building, said a secretary at the school.

Bells at the school are not working, but there was no other damage.

Lightning also struck Fairview Middle School on Cumberland Drive, causing light smoke to come out of a restroom fan, along with an unpleasant odor but no fire.

Williamson County Schools spokeswoman Carol Birdsong said Fairview Middle students will be dismissed from Fairview High school Monday afternoon. If your student rides the bus, they will board the bus as normal.

Parents wishing to pick up their middle school students should do so by entering the high school parking lot from the Highway 100 entrance - not the King Road entrance.
