Flight to Nashville makes emergency landing in KY

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A flight from Newark to Nashville Monday morning had to make an emergency landing in Kentucky after it was possibly hit by lightning.

United Airlines flight 4547, operated by ExpressJet, landed safely without incident just before 8 a.m. after smoke was detected in the cockpit area of the plane, according to an airline spokeswoman.

After landing, airport officials said the plane was examined by inspectors, and each of the 48 passengers was re-accommodated.

The airline said it provided bus transportation from Lexington to Nashville for those passengers who preferred to stay on the ground.
