SAN TAN VALLEY, AZ (CBS5) -

A stolen vehicle suspect was shot and wounded by Arizona Department of Public Safety officers early Thursday morning.

The DPS Stolen Vehicle Task Force was in the process of apprehending the suspect near Gary Road and Empire Boulevard in San Tan Valley when the shots were fired, according to Bart Graves of DPS.

The suspect was taken to a nearby hospital

The shooting happened around 7:30 a.m., Graves said.

No other information was immediately available.
