Habitat for Humanity welcomes a new program to the CSRA. The Women Build Program brings women together to learn construction skills and use those skills to be a part of the solution to poverty housing.
Tuesday morning the organization began construction with a crew of women volunteers on a new house on Miles Street in south Augusta.
"The home has to be built by over 50 percent women," said Samantha Peel, chairwoman of the Women Build Program. "Of course I hope it will be more than that, and I really think it will be. But it's totally women raising funds; the whole project."
This is the first home built by the Women Build Program in the CSRA. Lowe's provided a $5,000 grant to sponsor the home.
