Local animal rescue asking for community, official support

Posted: Updated:
EVANS, GA (WFXG) -

Happy Tails Rescue in Columbia County is asking for members of the community to publicly show their support of the mission.

The animal rescue is planning a rally of support Tuesday, March 19. The event will begin at 5:15pm at the Evans Government Complex. Barbara Gleitsmann, the founder of Happy Tails, is asking concerned community members and anyone who has adopted from the mission to show up with their animals and support the cause.

"We have helped the community for 10 years and now we need the community to help us," says Gleitsmann.

She hopes community officials will join in the fight to keep the CSRA's largest, private rescue shelter open.

Last month FOX54 told you the Georgia Department of Agriculture ordered that the facility be shut down by March 18.
