AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -
Shepeard Community
Blood Center is experiencing dangerously low levels of B positive and looking
to the community for help. Shepeard is asking the community to roll up
their sleeves to help critically ill patients at local hospitals.
"Not all people realize
that blood has to be collected, processed, tested and ready for someone before
that person actually needs it," said Claire Rossie, spokesperson for Shepeard
Community Blood Center. "That is why we desperately need donors today."
Shepeard Community Blood
Center is the contracted provider of blood and blood products for critically
ill patients at 21 local hospitals and the regional burn center serving South
Carolina and Georgia.
"If you are B positive
blood type and can make time to donate today, please do," said Rossie. "Our
local hospitals are in great need and depend on the local community to come to
their aid. We would not ask our local community to help if this situation was
not urgent."
All healthy people
weighing at least 110 pounds and at least 17 years old, or 16 with written
parental consent, can come to one of Shepeard's center locations to donate or
visit www.shepeardblood.org to find
community blood drives in your area this month. Please be sure to eat a good,
healthy meal and drink plenty of water before and after your donation.
