Monson PD: Man was on drugs during car crash

Posted: Updated:
MONSON, MA (WSHM) -

A Monson man is under arrest after crashing his pickup truck down an embankment and into a small river.

Monson police told CBS 3 the driver was under the influence of drugs when the crash happened.

Firefighters and police were called to 75 Wales Road on Saturday night to find the truck lying on its side in the river.

The driver was arrested for multiple charges including operating under the influence of drugs.

Tow truck operators at first struggled to get the pickup out of the brook, and precautions had to be taken to make sure the water wasn't contaminated.

"We called DEP as a precaution in case any fluids leaked into the river. We're not sure if any have or not. They'll come out after the vehicle is removed, and they'll assess it," said Deputy Fire Chief Brian Harris.

Monson police are still investigating this crash.
