Columbia County, GA (WFXG) -
It's no question that this fire tower has already helped to save lives right here in the CSRA.
Columbia County Fire Rescue has developed plans to plans to rent out the facility when it's not in use by Columbia County firefighters.
"Saving
a firefighter's life is very important, so that's what we're hoping to
accomplish from this," said Chief Brent Willis. "And it better serves the citizens not only here
but also in the communities around us."
Training Chief
Brent Willis works with firefighters in the training center on a
frequent basis. Now, the goal is to give other agencies without their
own tower a chance to as well.
"Fire departments have the
ability to rent that facility to conduct their training," said Willis. "It gives them
the ability to conduct different types of training, that we can take
them through that building."
That training is something the department prides itself in.
"Ones
of the things that we pride ourself in is the training aspect," said Willis. "And
training our firefighters and having the ability to train other
firefighters from around the area."
That training is something that Chief Willis says is crucial to the everyday experience of a firefighter.
