PEMBERVILLE, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Ammunition found in a bathroom put Eastwood High School on lockdown Friday morning. The Wood County Sheriff's Department conducted searches throughout the school, but was unable to find any weapons.

Eastwood Local Schools administration tells Toledo News Now that at 7:45 Friday morning, a student found ammunition in a boy's bathroom. The school's resource officer was called, and the lockdown procedure was followed. Students were told it was a practice lockdown at first, but then were told by officials it was a real situation.

Students remained in the building the rest of the school day. The superintendent and Wood County sheriff say no one was ever in any danger.

The middle school was not officially under lockdown, but teachers were posted at the door and only allowed parents inside and outside.

School officials in Eastwood schools let some students leave with their parents. The lockdown was not lifted, but students whose parents came to the high school were allowed to go home with them after going through a screening.

Between eight to 10 Wood County sheriff's deputies were in the school building conducting searches of students, backpacks and lockers. The sheriff and superintendent say they did not find any weapons, or the person responsible. Deputies were there all day conducting a full investigation. They say they did not find any weapons.

"[We didn't find any weapons,] which is what we expected, and we're pleased there were absolutely no weapons here. The school is no longer on the lockdown, they're on a modified schedule to make up for some lost time, but they're close to back to normal," said Wood County Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn.

According to the superintendent, the school then went under a modified lockdown for the rest of the day. Parents were allowed to pick up their children if they wanted, but otherwise students went to classrooms.

"Kids are safe. We've got law enforcement here. We've searched. We've done as much as we can, but we are going to continue to monitor to make sure we leave no stone unturned," said Superintendent Brent Welker.

Parents were shocked and concerned, but felt they could trust school officials with the situation. They did, however, voice concerns about the schools' security system.

The sheriff says they still do not know why the ammunition was put in the bathroom, but they will continue to investigate and review security footage until they have more answers.

The district posted the following statement on its website:

Eastwood High School is under a lockdown at this time. This morning live ammunition shells were found in a bathroom at the beginning of the school day. Our school resource officer was notified and there are multiple sheriff's deputies on site while the investigation is underway. The building will remain under lockdown until we can find the origin of the ammunition or all students have been cleared of weapons and ammunition. We are treating this incident seriously. School officials are taking their cues from the Wood County Sheriff's Office. We understand that parents are concerned, but the best thing now is to allow school officials and law enforcement to conduct the search and get the building back running normally. We will get back with parents when we have cleared the building and are operating normally.
