Arrest warrant issued for suspect in shooting near Hwy 155

SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

The Smith County Sheriff's Department is on currently searching for the suspect in a shooting on Lake Placid Road just off of Highway 155 outside of Tyler.

According to the Smith County Sheriff, deputies responded to shots fired around 3:23 on Thursday afternoon.

The sheriff's department has instructed local law enforcement to be on the look out for the suspected shooter. However, that person's identity is not being released at this time.

One person was transported to a Tyler hospital, where they are being treated.

A woman who claims she witnessed the shooting says her ex-boyfriend shot his cousin then fled the scene. She says the two men got into an argument and her ex-boyfriend left the property and returned with a gun. 

She says her ex-boyfriend fired two shots into the air before shooting his cousin in the side.

Officials have not confirmed what the witness says she saw. 

The Smith County Sheriff's Office says an arrest warrant has been issued for the suspected shooter.
