Accused squatter chooses house worth $3 million

MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - Investigators say a self-proclaimed sovereign citizen is squatting in a foreclosed home valued at about $3 million.

Police and bank representatives showed up at the house on the 600 block of Shady Grove Road Tuesday, and to their surprise, the unwanted guests were still there.

Interior photos of the home depict a lavish 10,000 square foot spread with five bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a media room, and a pool. The house sits on three acres and was foreclosed on. It is now owned by Renasant Bank.

"Tried to show it once or twice because I'm a realtor but I've never had any luck with it," said Jerry Modesto, Crye-Leike realtor. "But he should move. That would be the right thing to do, don't you think?"

When bank representatives arrived to check on the property Tuesday, they found the gate was chained shut. In addition to that, they found several private property signs, a red flag with a green star, and two Moorish American National Republic sovereign citizen posts claiming ownership signed by Abka Re Bey.

Police spent most of the morning circling the neighborhood before finally escorting a bank representative to the gate. A notice was dropped off demanding the people inside the house vacate within 24 hours.
