Fight over puppy results in woman attacked

CLARKSVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A Clarksville man has been charged after getting into a fight with his neighbor over a puppy.

Police responded to the 3200 block of Tower Drive after a woman told police her neighbor tackled her.

The woman said she and her neighbor had an argument because she had asked him to pick up the dog's feces that was on her front porch.

According to the police report, Benjamin Sherger brought his puppy outside to relieve itself.

Samantha Newton came outside with a broom.

Newton told police she asked Sherger to pick up the mess on her front steps and lawn, but Sherger attacked her.

Police charged Sherger with simple assault, but he was not taken to jail.

Sherger told police he jumped at the neighbor because he thought she was going to hit the puppy with her broom.
